PORTAGE, Pa (WJAC) — Portage Area School District announced Thursday that after receiving updated guidance from the state, the school district has decided to delay the start of the school year, until September 8th, and will operate under a hybrid learning model.
Students in grades 9 through 12 will attend a combination of in-person and virtual instruction, the announcement reads, while students in grades K-8 will attend in-person classes all five days.
School officials add that all students will have a weekly early dismissal on Wednesdays.
"A letter from superintendent, Eric Zelanko, has been posted to our website and is being mailed home. We wanted our families to have an overview as soon as possible. We thank you for your patience in this challenging time," school officials noted.
